New Year’s Eve Makeup- From Work to Party

There’s a good chance that my New Year’s Eve makeup will be the same as my work makeup this year. There’s been talk of a quick beer after work, then Indian takeout, so we can be in our PJ’s well ahead of the ball-drop. What can I say- we live a crazy life. This look is what I’d do if we were going out- heavier and sparklier than my every day, but still soft enough I don’t scare myself.

I wasn’t sure exactly what the final look would be. I ended up here and I love it.

It was a long road. 🙂 I started the same way I always do- by evening out my skin.

No makeup on left- Primer only on right.

For days or nights when I really need my makeup to last, I prime my skin with Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. It evens out my skin a bit and doesn’t dry as the day goes, so my skin stays fresh looking.

You can see quite a difference in my skin after foundation. It really knocks back the redness and helps cover texture issues. As always, I applied foundation (tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour full coverage foundation in Fair Light Honey) with a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I can’t buff foundation into my skin with brushes. I never ever ever like the finish. If I press it in with the sponge, I get a much more ‘skin’ like finish, and I use half the product.

For my eyes, I used the Lorac Pro Palette 2, and applied Chrome all over the lid. I used Nectar in my crease as a transition shade. I put Cocoa on the outer corner and buffed it up onto the lid on the outside. On the bottom lashes, I used Chrome all the way across, and Cocoa on the outer corner to connect top and bottom lashes. I then patted a bit of Silver on the inner half of the lid to lighten and add some sparkle.

I added a swipe of Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to the top lashes. I tightlined with Make Up Forever’s Aqua Eyes pencil in Matte Black and ran it along my bottom waterline. On the inner half of my bottom waterline, right over the black, I ran Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in Deja Vu to kick up the sparkle factor.

There’s no dignity in putting on mascara. I used Maybelline’s Define-a-Lash Waterproof in Very Black.

After cleaning up the fallout, and doing some under eye concealing with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye in Neutral Medium, I set my foundation with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light, using my Real Techniques sponge to apply. Then, I decided to try and warm up the skin/ maybe contour a bit with Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched. I finished with a whack of NARS Blush in Amore, and a bit of the Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer on my cheekbones and inner corner of my eyes.

Finished look with nude lips.

For a nude lip look- I used MAC’s Patisserie. It’s my fav ‘my lips but better’ lipstick that I wear when I know I’m going to have my picture taken, and I won’t be able to do endless touch ups.

If you want bolder, this look works with bolder.

This is MAC’s Damn Glamorous. The one and only matte red. I LOVE IT.

Finally, if you are feeling a little more party (I mean, a coral party)

This is NARS Audacious Lipstick in Grace. It looks really red in this photo, but in person it’s SOOOOO CORAL AND PINK AND PERFECT AND GREAT.

From this to this in only 200 steps.  🙂

You could easily add false lashes to this, and probably go a bit heavier on blush, but I chose to keep it relatively non-fussy. (Relatively).

Hope you ring in the new year your way. I will be in elastic pants covered in crumbs (as we all should be) but if you are covered in glitter and champagne, have a safe and happy night.
