Red lipstick for Valentine’s Day? Here are my picks

No one needs an excuse for a great red lipstick. However, if you need an excuse- Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I own more red lipsticks than any one person should, and I love them all dearly. If you are looking for a great red lipstick for Valentine’s Day (or any day) here are some of my favorites:

First up is Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Cherry. This lipstick is a true-blue red. As I mentioned in a previous post, this formula is great for anyone not a fan of the super long wearing matte formulas. It applies beautifully, and has a smooth moisturizing texture. Of course, since it’s not matte, it transfers like crazy. Despite that, it’s the lipstick to reach for if you like your reds slightly cool, and very forgiving on the lips. I love this formula so much I own three- cherry, poppy, and nude.

The next lipstick in the lineup is MAC Viva Glam Dita Von Teese. If you read this post, you saw it in action, but I cannot.stop.with.this.lipstick. I don’t think it’s available any more on the MAC website (which makes me an asshole for showing it to you) but if they are smart, they will re-release this shade, and if they do YOU MUST GET IT. Not trying to influence your decision making, but seriously. It’s vibrant, almost neon red. It’s a true neutral on me- meaning it doesn’t lean too blue or too yellow. The texture is a creamy matte, so it will dry as the day goes, but if you put a great lip balm underneath like this one, you won’t have any issues. Transfer is minimal. Impact is maximum.

Speaking of MAC, I caved and got my hands on one (or two) of their retro matte liquid lip colors. I’m wearing Fashion Legacy, which is described as a fire-truck red. So true. Again, I like my reds neon. I like them true red, leaning warm. I’m a fan of liquid lipsticks because they tend to stay put once applied. This one is no exception. The texture is slightly mousse-y so be careful. If you over apply, which is easy to do, it will gather at the seam of your lips. One coat is plenty with this product. But it dries down, and wears comfortably. I wouldn’t say it’s anything miraculous in terms of comfort- it’s perfectly in the middle of the road. It will dry your lips a bit as the day goes. Again- get that balm all over the place. It’s a savior.

One of my favorite lipsticks is this lipstick by Bite Beauty in the shade Mimosa. There is something magical in this lipstick. It is perfectly pigmented. It’s SO COMFORTABLE to wear. And it seems to reapply itself throughout the day. I don’t understand it. Of all the lipsticks in this post- hell, of all the lipsticks I own, this one wears the most evenly throughout the day. It’s an incredibly forgiving texture, so if you have dry lips, or patchy areas, this one is a no-brainer. Plus, it’s SO RED. Something about this lipstick makes me feel badass, like I want to throw on my sunglasses, and go out and conquer the world. Also, if you are ingredient conscious- this brand is for you. Food grade ingredients in this lipstick. One more reason to own it, and one more reason I don’t understand why I don’t have at least 4 or 5 of this brand in my collection.

The final red lipstick I’m obsessed with is by Colour Pop in the shade Frenchie. If, like me, you like your lipsticks BRIGHT NEON this is the brand for you. There are a few other shades I own that I love by them. This particular shade is neon and very bright. It’s a pink red, and it STAINS. So word of warning- it takes makeup remover to get all the color off my lips at the end of the day, but if you want something that wears evenly- and stays put- this is the lipstick for you. Plus a $5 price tag doesn’t hurt either. Get one. Or five.
