I own a million of these Bite Beauty Lipsticks. The entire brand is my holy-grail, desert-island lipstick brand. Even the multisticks are divine. There is something magical in these products. They are super pigmented, comfortable to wear, and seem to self re-apply as the day goes. And the smell. Ugh. So Good. I can’t explain them. I bought one, and I’ve found endless reasons to continue to add more and more to my collection.
This particular shade is Pepper. It’s a cool rose color, and I’M OBSESSED. I recommend this shade to everyone. I find weird ways to insert my recommendation into conversations. I won’t let an opportunity pass to sing this lipstick’s praises. I tend to reach for this one when I don’t know what I want to wear that day, or if I need a lipstick to WORK, no matter what I’m wearing, or did with my makeup. If you know what’s good for you, GET IT.
This is a great MLBB lipstick. MLBB, for those not in the know, means ‘my lips but better’. This shade is peachy and sheer, so it applies easily without a mirror. It’s so great to throw in my bag and have on hand if I know I need to look put together and natural. I’d recommend it for anyone whose coloring leans slightly warm, or for lipstick nubes. If you want something very user friendly, this is a great place to start.
See Sheer by MAC Cosmetics is a shade I often overlook this lipstick because it isn’t a bold, in-your-face color, but I’m adding it to the stash of lipsticks in my bag to give it a bit extra love next month.
Hmm. Day Seven. Before I get into my thoughts on this lipstick, can I share how weird it is to take selfies everyday? It’s more difficult than I thought to look at my own face so often. Completely and totally odd. But I’m persevering in the name of lipstick.
I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t excited by this pick. And in case I haven’t shared, my husband is randomly selecting these lipsticks each morning. The random selection forces me to wear shades I wouldn’t on my own. Today’s lipstick is a great example. I can’t tell if I love this lipstick, or if I feel middle aged in this lipstick. I don’t know. I vacillate.
Now, the texture is stunning. It wears beautifully. I don’t reach for it, ever, because when I catch myself in the mirror, or I see a photograph of myself wearing this color, I don’t love it. Life’s too short for a lipstick I don’t love, right? I should stop waffling long enough to say that it’s Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Audrey. It’s described as a neutral red. Maybe that’s why I don’t love it. I like my reds to be NEON. All my faves, ColourPop’s Frenchie, MAC Cosmetics Dita von Teese (this was limited edition- soz) and Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Persimmon, are all SUPER vibrant and bright.
I actually would love to try another of these lipsticks in a different color. I have absolutely no complaint about the product. The color is just not for me. I’ll make sure it finds another lipstick-loving home.
I can’t stop with these super dark lipsticks. Frankly, I can’t stop with any and all lipsticks, but that’s an ongoing issue. I was in Vancouver this weekend (hence the backlogged posts) and I went to the world’s largest Nordstrom. I swatched and swatched and swatched, and I kept coming back to Sin by MAC Cosmetics. So I treated myself. It’s matte, my favorite texture, and it wore so well throughout the day. I tend to get pretty bad lipstick bleed, but this one stayed put. I was really impressed. The texture stayed comfortable, and it didn’t get terribly patchy like it’s other dark lipstick brethren. When I wear it, I feel fierce, and that makes it a winner in my book.
Guess who’s back? NARS. That’s who. This time, my lipstick of the day is the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien. (I spelled that right after 4 tries, and that’s a win.) This pencil came as a free birthday gift from Sephora, and for longer than I care to admit, I ignored it. It seemed so unremarkable, but I’m here to tell you I COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. This is the absolute best color when I want “my lips but better”. It’s pink, but not too pink. Nude, but no too nude. And the best part? I can swipe it on without a mirror. It’s become a staple that I keep in my bag at all times.
This is the perfect time of year for this color. Dose of Colors liquid lipstick in Brick is a deep brown red. I have both positive and negative things to say about this product. First, the good- I absolutely love the color. The pigmentation is great, and the color applies well with one coat. The formula, however, isn’t anything exceptional. It’s comfortable if you aren’t a lip smoosher, like me. (Lip smooshing is the art of constantly and consistently smooshing lips due to lipstick patchiness paranoia). If you can apply and leave it alone, it wears well.
Here are my issues with this product- the applicator makes it very tricky to get a sharp line. Liquid lipstick isn’t liquid lipstick without crisp edges. I had to get a stiff lipstick brush to help clean up, which means I’ll be picky about when I reach for this lipstick. I also find that it goes a bit patchy as it wears, particularly in the middle where the lips meet.I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t worn it enough to report on how it does with reapplication during the day. If it crumbles, it will be cast aside. That’s my liquid lipstick pet peeve.
It’s fierce in photos, though. Get it here.
Day Three! This one is a mega throwback. I bought this NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg years ago, and I’ll admit that I’ve neglected it as my collection has grown. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it after wearing so many different formulas and brands. But I’ll give credit- this lip pencil is amazing! Sephora describes the shade as ‘watermelon’. Pigmented, comfortable to wear, and fades the best of all the lipsticks I own. I drank three cups of coffee and because this lip pencil stains a bit, the fade was so natural. NO CLOWN MOUTH FOR ME, THANKS. This is a bright, fun pink, and now that I’m back to brown hair, the pinks have become my fav.
Day two’s lipstick is technically a multistick. Bite Beauty is one of my absolute favorite brands, so when they launched these multisticks, I snapped one up. I bought the shade Brioche on a whim, and I like it so much, I’ll likely buy a few more shades. This color is warm. Very warm. And very red. That makes it simpatico with my natural flush. I tend to wear this on low-makeup days.
My lipstick collection is OUTRAGEOUS. If I quadrupled the number of lips on my face, I still wouldn’t be able to wear all my lipsticks in reasonable rotation. Writing this makes me realize I need to stop buying lipsticks, but in the face of my full blown lipstick addition, that seems unlikely.
Instead of spending any (more) money on cosmetics this holiday season, I decided to create a lipstick advent calendar from my own collection. I’ll pick a different lipstick from my bucket each day. It will make me happy, and I’ll get to revisit some lipsticks I don’t reach for often.

I smell like summer. Actually, MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA’s ‘Replica’ Beach Walk perfume smells like summer, but I’ll happily take the credit. There are official ‘notes’ in this fragrance that I can’t describe other than to say it smells like the best parts of sunscreen, the good smells of the beach mixed with rays of sun and something slightly delicious. It’s incredible. I got the rollerball because I tend to wear perfume conservatively, but I regret not being able to walk through a cloud of this in the morning. Since buying it, I’ve stopped wearing anything else, because all I can think when I get dressed is “I want to smell like summer!” Get some if you do too.
