It’s hot. Face meltingly, makeup destroyingly hot. When it gets this gross outside, and the heat and humidity make sure I look like I’ve just come from a workout- no matter where I’ve been- I have to rely on a pretty light makeup routine to keep my skin happy. When minimal eyeshadow and light foundation are a must, the best products in my makeup bag are my lipsticks.
I’m sure there’s some #science to back up my summer-makeup-theory: if I wear lipstick as bright as the sun, the heat deflects and keeps me cooler. Sound unlikely? Yea, but that’s what delusion is for.
Anyway, I love orangey lipsticks. The love really kicked into high gear when I found an old lip crayon for this tutorial, and realized how much I really dug wearing such a vibrant warm pop of color, especially now that my hair is lighter. Here are my five favorite orangey-red lipsticks to help beat the summer heat.
Vibrant. Beautiful. That’s about all you need to know about the Bobbi Brown Art Sticks from her recent Hot Collection. I’d read some of the hype and reviews on these products, and when I saw the swatches of the Orange art stick, I was intrigued. I’m in search of a dupe for the now-unavailable orange lip color I used in this post. Once I got my hands on it, I wore it every day for a week and I knew I had to have another. On a girls shopping trip with my mom, I picked up the Pink one, and I’m SOOOOO not sorry. It’s gorgeous. They are large pencils (sharpeners included) and they apply like a dream. Smooth, pigmented, and most importantly- comfortable. If you want a brilliantly bold treat for your lips, snatch these up. I’m pretty sure the Berry one will be on it’s way once I save up the pennies…

I don’t have a MAC counter nearby. The nearest one is over an hour away, so I don’t have a whole lot of their products in my collection (well, with the exception of lipstick, because if it’s hot pink, red, or coral and they make it- I own it.) Since I tend to online shop for their products, I’m nervous to buy too many things without seeing them in person. However, I’ve had my eye on a few things, and when the new Miley Cyrus Viva Glam lipstick was released, it gave me an excuse to pull the trigger on a few other items I’d been coveting.
It wasn’t that long ago that I wrote about what products I use to prep my skin for makeup. Many of those products are tried-and-tested great, but I’m still battling some skin issues that I hope a few of these swaps will help me resolve. I did some research, read lots of reviews, and after lots of careful consideration, I placed a skincare order…
I’m not ashamed to say that I spend a small fortune on makeup and skincare products in a year. I love them. All of them. I have a particular weakness for lipsticks and blush. It’s probably time someone held an intervention, but until then, I’ll hoard all the pretty things and lord over my collection like the self-satisfied consumer I am. Continue reading
